latest from the chief

TASK FORCE OPERATIONS – The Department will soon be starting Task Force operations throughout the Town. A shortened version last year greatly reduced robberies and other crimes of violence, and I am hopeful this year’s version will meet with even greater success. THE DEPARTMENT WILL NEED RIDE ALONGS TO SUPPLEMENT REGULAR PATROL DURING THESE OPERATIONS. PLEASE CALL ME TO SIGN UP.

C-PACT/CHEVERLY WATCH RESIDENT RADIO PROGRAM MEETING – There will be a joint meeting of C-PACT (Cheverly – Citizens and Police Together), Cheverly’s Neighborhood Watch Organization, and the Cheverly Watch Resident Radio Program on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 7:00 PM in the Police Department Conference Room. We will discuss the implementation of the Task Force, the possible integration of a citizen patrol, and grant opportunities for 2009.

WE NEED YOUR VEHICLE DONATIONS – At the current time, there are no vehicles left in our donation inventory, and I am soliciting the help of every resident who has considered such donations. The biggest advantage to donating your vehicle to the Cheverly Police Department in lieu of a number of other worthy causes is that you can actually see your donation dollars at work.

PEDESTRIAN ENFORCEMENT – The Department has recently received additional grant monies from the State Highway Administration for pedestrian enforcement of traffic violations along Landover Road. This money pays for police overtime to specifically enforce these violations and reducing pedestrian violations particularly near Kilmer Street remains a top priority.

TRAFFIC COMPLAINTS – Residents who Email their traffic complaints, i.e., speeding, stop sign violations, parking complaints, etc., get put onto a list right away and service is usually directed toward these problems within a week. My Email address is policechief@cheverly-md.gov. This same address can be used to notify me about issues in your neighborhood that need police attention. In lieu of an email, please feel free to contact me at (301) 341-1055.

Thanks, Chief Robshaw.

radio fancification

All participants in the Citizen Radio Program should bring their handsets by the station this week. The signal-boosting repeater is coming on line, and the units have to be reprogrammed to take advantage of the upgrade. Chief Robshaw promises to deliver the handsets back to users' homes once they are ready. What service!

Happy Holidays from C-PACT

Whatever holiday motivates you to don your gay apparel, we hope you have a wonderful and safe time with family and friends. We wish you peace and every blessing in the new year.

For those of us with last minute shopping do to, we offer Kevin Coffey's mall safety tips. Despite "The Scholar of Thievery" silly business and a propensity for putting his foot on sheet-draped boxes, his advice is sound.

Save us some pie, eh?
